How we entertain our {crazy} kiddos in this heatwave!

Feelin' hot hot hot!
It's so flippin hot this summer, it's insane!
The beginning of the summer was filled with all day backyard fun,
trips to the wading pool,
park adventures,
and being outside allthetime.
The kids loved it.
Lidia could be outside all day/everyday.
Pretty sure that child would nap underneath her slide in the backyard just to be outside a little longer.
We have to bribe her with popsicles just to get her inside... judgemenot.

So what does that mean for our family now that it's 95 degrees or more each day?
and feels like 115 degrees?
(Who comes up with the "feels like this temperature" on the news anyway?)
Well we've gotten a little creative.
Well not really... most of time the kids find things on their own and I take credit for it...
just being real...
So this is what we've been doing:

Playing with Pots and Pans:
Simple enough.
We all have pots and pans right?
(and if you don't? I have plenty for you!)
Get some utensils out too!
(safe ones of course, CPS might be called on you like Amber from Teen Mom if you get out a knife or two)
Then let the kids go to town pretending to cook or just banging on the pans driving you crazy!
Sometimes I'll put a little water in the pans and the kiddos have extra fun.
Use towels or the kitchen for that activity though :)

Playing with identical birthday presents.
Why is this so great?
Two of the same toy...
Two of the same NEW toy...
Even better.
Less fighting = happy mama

And yes, that was plural.
We have three sprinklers, they all serve their own purpose so dont think I went overboard.
(Actually they were bday presents)
Sprinklers never get old.
Keeps them cool.
Keeps you cool.
Keeps them happy,
therefore keeps you happy.
Until your backyard neighbor sees your nakey butt child running around... hmmm....

We've also done indoor activities like:
The Animal Rescue League to pet kitties
The play place at the mall
McDonald's play place
Playing with water in the sink
(or in Carly's case the toilet... sick)
Playing with icecubes in a bowl...
to name a few.

If all else fails turn to the outdoors and brave the heat!
Strip them down, hand them water, and let them enjoy themselves!
We only live once right?
It wont be long until they are complaining to be inside like we are.
Oh to be a child again...

and of course...
cuddles are always recommended!
Can you tell the kiddos have been clothesless alot this summer???

Carlys Birthday Weekend!

My baby is one!!

She celebrated by doing this all weekend....
I kid, I kid.
But seriously, have you ever seen a sleep position like that before?!
I died from laughing when I walked into her room while she was napping...
and yes, I'm a psycho mom that still checks on both kids while they're sleeping!

Carly's birthday weekend was great!
It started on Thursday when we went to the Animal Rescue League!
Lidia is obsessed with kitties... can you tell?

 Friday was Carly's birthday!!
We woke up and sang "Happy Dirday to ewww... Happy Dirday to sissy"
(Lidia's version)
about 28 times
(remind me why I taught her that song again?)
and then headed to the beach!

The beach was hot, dirty, and the kids weren't big fans of the sand,
we had a fun time anyway having a picnic and playing at the park!
Then we went home and had a family birthday party/dinner for the princess!

The rest of the weekend included...
loving on Tori who spent the weekend with us!!
cuddling in a Grandma Lulu sandwich,
riding rides at the mall,
playing in the sprinkler,
and swinging of course....

Then on Monday we went to the zoo!
Our favorite part was the train,
and Lidia loved all the animals and pointing out each sound they made, why not right?
Oh yes, and the girls wore matching outfits.
They never do, and I loved how cute they looked!!

On Monday we also went to the Dr. for their 1 and 2 year check-ups.
Here's the rundown:
Height, Weight, and Head Circumference: 97% for all
(are we shocked? no. she looks like a 5 year old!)
But she was running a fever earlier that day and not sleeping at all during the weekend,
so they did a few tests and....
Strep Throat.
(again are we shocked? no. she's always sick!)

Height, Weight, and Head Circumference: 50-75% for all.
I also had the doctor check out her walk.
I haven't talked about this, but Carly walks like one leg is longer then the other, or her hip is out of place.
So of course I had the doctor check it out.
She's not too concerned about it right now since she just started walking,
but wants to check it out at 15 months.
Prayers that it just goes away!!!

The first year of Carly's life...

Carly turns one on Friday!
This past year has been a whirlwind.
Emotionally, physically, and mentally challenging.
All because we had a new baby and a one year old to take care of at the same time.
'nuff said, right?
Also we had a wedding to plan and then to party at (whoo!),
we were newlyweds, and the husband has had to work extremely hard and for long hours.
So this year was exhausting but we tend to forget how amazing it was too!

The most important thing?
We added an angel to our family on July 22nd!
So with Friday coming up, I have all sorts of emotions over my little baby turning one.
Her first year was a blur.
I felt like I kept waiting for her to get out of the baby stage...
to start sleeping through the night, to start crawling, talking, etc.
I didn't get to enjoy Carly's baby stage because I had two babies to think about instead of just one.
But now that she is a walking, talking, independent beautiful toddler...
I have some regrets on not stepping back and just enjoying her as a baby more!
No, I dont want the sleepless nights, the baby that wouldn't cuddle,
or the hours upon hours of soothing her to sleep because she would never take a paci...
but I do want to remember all the good, and not so much of the stress that was Carly's first year of life.
Because she deserves it!

Has this year of two under two gotten easier?
Heck yes.
Of course it brings new struggles of sisters fighting over toys and hitting each other,
but I love the place we are at as a family and I love love love my almost one year old.
I wouldn't trade her or this last year for anything!
She made us whole and she when she jumps up and down when we walk in a room...
I almost collapse from all the love I feel from her.
My little Carly bear is so amazing and special...
She is always on the go!
She crawls faster then any baby I've seen,
and is now almost running faster then her sister.
We call her our little boy.
She sticks everything in her mouth.
She falls down at least 30 times a day, tries to climb on and off everything.
She will not sit still for even 2 minutes.
I learned all the "new mommy tricks" before she was born so I'm not afraid to let her cry it out.
(The sole reason she's our 13+ hour sleeper)
The cries don't bother me as much, and I don't give in as easily because she is my second baby
I love her with all my heart.
She holds my heart in her itty bitty hands.
She's the prettiest baby I've ever seen and the sweetest.
Her kisses melt me.
Her laugh is contagious.
Her walk is hilarious and her fish face is my favorite thing in the world.
She walks around the house repeating, "Mama mama mama" about 900 times an hour, and I love it.
Even though last year went by too fast, I promise this year will be even better!

Its you, me, sissy, and papa against the world Carly Jo!
I love you Cbear!

Lidia and Carly's birthday party!

When trying to come up with a theme for the girls' birthday party,
it came down to picking out a theme for them...something I knew they would like.
Since Carly only likes eating, playing with mama, walking around aimlesslly, and torturing her sister...
so we went with what Lidia likes, and that would obviously be Dora.

So Dora it was, but I revolved the color scheme around these outfits...

I got them from the amazing boutique Lovella Bowtique and they were perfect.
So when my bloggy bestie (and real life bestie if we lived closer) came down to visit,
she took the girls pictures for their birthday and to set out at the party!
Here's just a few of my favs...
Don't you LOVE them?
She's amazing.
Check out her blog for other amazing pics, and if you're in the Minneapolis area,
obviously contact her!

So the theme ended up being Dora with pink, orange, and zebra accents to match the girls' outfits and Dora's outfit of course!
We had the party at my church youth center since we were having 40+ people attending, and there was a gym with games and toys for the kids to play with.
It ended up being the perfect day.
But next year? Something simple.
I was exhausted afterwards!
So onto the details....

The cake table.

I made the two banners, the cupcake stand,  and the "L" and "C' wooden painted letters.
The picture frames had the girls birthday pictures in them and said "L&C" on each frame.
They were from Hobby Lobby.
Oh wait.
Basically everything was from Hobby Lobby... duh.

A church friend made these aDORAble (get it? hehe) Dora cake and cupcakes.
I still can't get over either of them!
Good thing I have about 4798 more cupcakes in my kitchen to stare at...
but not eat. Nope. :)

The welcome table!
Included a few more of their birthday pics, a newborn pic of each girl, Dora dolls, a Happy Birthday Dora book for people to sign, the framed birthday invitation, and a styrofoam lollipop thingamabob I whipped up last minute.

The food.
We had a hotdog stand!
We won't get into the debacle that ended up with the hotdog stand and my husband an hour late to the party, but at least it got there, right?
We served hotdogs with all the fixins', chips, crackers, potato and pasta salad, watermelon, etc.
A good ole fashion bbq!

The kitchen aka the line-up of food + kids table with coloring and eating of course!
This is pretty boring but I wanted to show off my Tissue Poms!
They were super easy to make and add just that extra touch to any party!

Carly's high chair and Lidia's big girl chair!

The girls "eating" their cake.
We cut the Dora cake in half, stripped them down, and expected them to go at it!
I don't have any good pictures of them eating it, because they both just poked at the cake instead!

Since Carly and Lidia wouldn't dig in,
we have some other little girls that did instead!!

But Lidia did decide to indulge in a cupcake in her new Dora chair while opening presents!

And Carly looked cute as always!

... and just some more randoms from the party!

It was a great day!
Thanks to everyone that came out!
I didn't get very many pictures at all.
Hardly any of the guests or the birthday girls because most were taken before the party started,
none of the front door or miscellaneous decorations...
BUT my excuse is that I was busy!
Like I said, next year... simple!
